Appraiser

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the annual valuation of more complex commercial/industrial, multi-family residential and exempt properties in compliance with state statutes and the uniform standards of professional appraisal practice. Health Department

Under limited supervision, this intermittent position provides advanced health care services in the area of family planning. Work includes conducting the physical examination with emphasis on reproductive health, obtaining medical, family and personal history, and diagnosing, treating and managing identified medical problems. Significant aspects of the work involve educating and counseling patients in proper reproductive system and general health care practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Under general supervision, this position provides health care services in the areas of Infectious Disease, Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Infectious, Family Planning, and Public Health Emergencies. Under general supervision, this position operates a variety of construction equipment to repair and maintain roads and signs. Performs other duties as required. This position is a Trainee position and is limited to 180 days in length. During this time, Trainees must successfully complete the required probationary period, successfully complete a third-party Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training course, and obtain a Class A CDL. Successful completion of the probationary period will permit the Road Maintenance Trainee position to be reclassified as into a Road Maintenance II position. Sheriff

Under general supervision, this position is a high workload position with little or no down time. This position performs maintenance, repairs and equipment installation/repair on over 150 pieces of agency owned vehicles as well as other agencies such as Emergency Management, DA Office, and United States Marshall Services and other county and state agencies as needed. This includes cars, light trucks, small engine equipment, mowers, trailers, generators, ATV/UTVs and other offroad equipment. This position is supervised by the Fleet Supervisor. MIN. QUALS: High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Eight (8) years’ experience in automotive mechanic repair work. Two (2) years’ related vocational training from an accredited vocational school may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis. Must be eighteen (18) years of age. Sheriff

Under general supervision, this position serves the public through the preservation of peace, prevention of crime and disorder, protection of life and property, arrest of violators and the enforcement of court orders and criminal laws of the State of Kansas and the Home Rule Resolutions of the County of Shawnee. Specifically, this position performs duties of a law enforcement officer such as, but not limited to, traffic enforcement, preventative patrol, traffic accident investigation, community policing, serving criminal arrest warrants, serving civil process and investigating criminal activity. Starting Pay between $21.85 - $23.66 is dependent on prior emergency dispatching experience. $1,500 hiring bonus. Plus $1.00-$1.50 Shift Pay for 2nd & 3rd Shift. *911 Dispatcher receives requests for services of a public safety nature including fire suppression, medical emergency and law enforcement and relays them to the appropriate agencies providing these services. *Minimum Qualifications Include: High School Diploma or GED. No felony convictions. Required to type thirty-five (35) words per minute. Required to pass a background investigation, pre-employment physical and drug screen. POSITION DESCRIPTION Under direct supervision, this position receives phone requests for services of a public safety nature including fire suppression, medical emergency and law enforcement, and relays them via Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to the appropriate Communications Specialist charged with providing these services. Required to type thirty-five (35) words per minute. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Required to pass a background investigation, pre employment physical and drug screen. Required to work most holidays, weekends and hours other than regular daytime schedule, and work a rotating days off schedule. NCIC Certification or certification within one (1) year of employment.

Sheriff

Under general supervision, this position performs work relating to maintaining security and control of property and evidence. Performs other duties as required. This position is supervised by the CSIU Sergeant. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Five (5) years’ clerical experience OR Education substituted on year for year basis. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment. No felony convictions or diversions. No misdemeanor convictions or diversions related to domestic violence. Must be a United States citizen. Valid Driver’s License

Solid Waste

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of clerical duties including: copying reports and other documents, scheduling appointments and greeting customers. Operates and performs simple maintenance on a variety of standard and unique office machinery. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is supervised by the Office Manager II and/or Solid Waste Deputy Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED Certificate. One (1) year of clerical experience or one (1) year of experience in the Office Assistant I classification. Three (3) semester hours of college course work from an accredited college or university or ninety (90) clock hours from an accredited vocational school in business, office administration or closely related field may be substituted for the required experience. Required to type thirty-five (35) words per minute.

Solid Waste

Under general supervision, this position collects solid waste as a member of a Solid Waste collection crew. Performs various manual tasks at Rolling Meadows and the shop, as assigned. Learns to operate the packer controls of a Solid Waste truck. Responsibility to understand and follow safe operations procedures, work rules and regulations. Performs other duties as required. This position is supervised by the Solid Waste Collection Supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Completion of truck driving school or six (6) months’ experience in driving a truck of at least 64,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Valid Kansas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake certification and eligible to operate a County-owned vehicle (HR-2013-2).

Weed Department

Under general supervision, this position works to control and eradicate noxious weed populations within Shawnee County borders. This position operates pesticide application equipment and uses cultural control methods in some locations. May be required to operate chemical sales counter. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is supervised by the Weed Director. • High School Diploma or GED • One (1) year experience in park maintenance, horticulture, or agriculture work. • Valid Driver’s License and able to operate a County-owned vehicle (HR 2013-2). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Required to pass a pre employment physical and drug screen. • Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s Certification in Category 9a and 6 is required within ninety (90) days of hire (if not available at the time of hire). • Required to lift sixty (60) pounds.
